ON TO CHIHUAHUA

SAND-DUNES...
Within minutes of leaving the check point these dunes would be hard to miss - but is rare that the gates are unlocked. Too bad ‘cause it is really beautiful. Constantly changing miles of sand dunes sculptured by the winds. Great place to explore if you have the time to find someone to let you in. I’ll bet some couple with an RV could get the concession rights to this place for a song. There is a almost new building for a Restaurant with bathrooms; it could be a fabulous RV Park.

Click on photo for larger image The expressway to Chihuahua is a toll-road (cuota). There is a way around for free (libre). The ‘libre’ will add a half hour to the driving time. I hate paying the tolls. I am always towing something so the toll is doubled. This particular toll stop is over $22 dollars for me (a single car is about 10 bucks). It is of course, your choice. There is yet one more toll-booth just before Chihuahua but it is less. On this route, there are no more.

Chihuahua...
CHI “WOW” AH…..Huge! Up to you of course, but I’m a small town, mountain, deserted beach guy who always follows the signs around the west side on Ruta Paisano (Route 45/16) to Hidalgo Del Parral and Cuauhtemoc. Last chance on the route for Wallmart, Burger King, etc. You will see ‘em off a new 12 lane highway.

Yo! There are auto mechanics everywhere but I found an honest one here on the outskirts of the city. Just in case……….You have almost left the city behind when, on your right, on a hill you will see a very large Motel; The Las Vegas. Turn right , go past the entrance to the Motel about half a K on your right.

Turning South following the signs to Parral on 24. You have seen the last of the major expressways for the rest of the journey. I am always so pleased to leave the major population centers behind.
